The Dipped Fruit Shipping Program was launched in order to help us reach additional customers across the United States that cannot be reached with traditional delivery by a local store.
The Dipped Fruit Shipping Program is a separate element of the Edible® business and therefore has a select menu of products that can be shipped while still ensuring product quality.
Shipping Centers
All Shipping Centers should review the nSpire videos under the Category “DF.com” to learn the proper procedures for dipping, packaging and other instructions.
Shipping Center Criteria
All Edible® stores are considered for participation in the Dipped Fruit Shipping Program.
With the help of our shipping partner FedEx, we have worked to identify the Edible® store locations that would allow us to reach the most possible customers/ZIP codes that are not currently within an Edible® local store delivery area but are located within 1-day Ground transit of the store location.
Stores are invited to participate primarily based on this shipping zone coverage (i.e. how much “un-serviced” population and area a store could reach within a 1-day Ground transit from the store location).
Additional selection criteria include, but are not limited to, store size and layout, operational performance, QAR scores and shutoff history and length of time the location has operated.
Based on current order volume and coverage areas, we do not anticipate the need for additional Shipping Centers in most areas;. We reserve the right to add additional Shipping Centers at our sole discretion.
Shipping Program Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Dipped Fruit Shipping Centers have operational processes and structures for technology, packaging, fees, customer service and other elements that differ from standard Edible® stores.
Shipping Program Packaging
The Shipping Program may have some products that are exclusive to shipping locations. The menu set for shipping locations is designed to offer select products that maintain product quality while being shipped. Please review the shipping location menu as this menu can be changed from time to time.
Products for shipment are packaged in custom shipping boxes, including several shipping box components and other components in the 12-ct fruit box that are required to protect our perishable dipped fruit products during shipping.
Shipment Orders
Dipped Fruit Shipment Centers receive shipment orders through Edible and Edible.com channels:
- Edible.com and Edible Call Center
- DippedFruit.com now redirects customers to Edible.com and will process orders the same way when a shipment-only zip code is entered.
Note: Edible® stores currently receive orders through the channels listed above as well.
If a customer arrives at Edible.com or calls the Edible Customer Care Center and provides a ZIP code for which the Local Edible Store menu delivery is not available, that customer is presented with an option to select a different menu item of select Shipping Store products.
Service/Coverage
With the Dipped Fruit Shipping Program and Edible® local store service combined; EA is currently able to reach customers almost anywhere in the United States. Our Shipping Program is helping EA to reach over 98% national coverage.
Dipped Fruit Shipping Centers currently ship to ZIP codes that are within a 1-day Ground transit of the store location through FedEx shipping. Shipping by Ground service has allowed us to use our network of Edible® stores to its full advantage, while still getting our dipped fruit products to our customers within one day of shipment.
In certain areas, in select existing Shipping Centers, we’ve also added Next Day Air service. These Next Day Air-serviced areas were not previously serviced by, and cannot currently be serviced by, Edible® stores, or by 1-day Ground shipping.
All Dipped Fruit Shipping Program service areas are defined and maintained by Edible.
Shipping Backup Service
In order to ensure that every customer is always serviced by Edible®, the Dipped Fruit Shipping Program also backs up Edible® stores. Back up shipment service works as follows:
- If an Edible® store turns off ZIP codes/products, customers will be serviced by Edible® back up stores.
- If an Edible® store turns off ZIP codes/products and there are no active backup Edible® stores, then a Dipped Fruit Shipping Center will receive the order.
All stores wanting to turn off zip codes must first open a helpdesk ticket for approval.
